  Why look for accreditation?

What are the advantages of looking for accredited programs, and why should you have this in mind when looking for a study abroad program? Does it really matter if you are just there to learn for your own benefit?

Respondent 8 July 2009: It only matters if your school acepts it, if not, don´t bother!

CLIC 8 July 2009: Remember that what your schools accepts and what it does not is somewhat open. What does this mean? You have to do your homework beforehand, and present the options to them in the most transparent way possible so they can evaluate the quality of the program you are investigating. I studied abroad as an undergraduate (I am American) 3 times, and each time, presenting the courses before I left, though I had to spend some time doing research etc, I was able to get all my courses accredited by my home university. So your university accepting credit is a matter of you showing them what you want to do, and proactively moving this process forward.  It means you look at your major requirements and determine how the courses offered at CLIC fit into your department's  offerings. Remember there are often generic courses that are designed specifically for the purpose of encompassing alternative options, such as Special Topics, Independent Study, etc. CLIC will help with this by talking to you registrar or home department if needed.

Respondent 9 July 2009: the advantages are obvious cause you dont waste all that time and money for nothing! you can study for your own benfit, blahblah, but adding credit to that and knowcking out classes ya got to do at home definitely is an extra benefit! so i say yes.
