The Benedictine College Semester program includes an established 5 week internship in the middle of the semester. Interning in Spain is an excellent way to practice your language and cultural competence skills in a real-time environment, as well as to gain key inside knowledge on the workings of a Spanish business in your field. Students also receive academic credit for their internship from Benedictine College. This is an option for all students enrolled in the Benedictine College semester program at all levels. However, students with lower levels of Spanish may be considered for different types of placements suitable to their levels, such as working with children or in bilingual environments. Internships take place in Spanish businesses and organizations in Seville, and recently we have placed students in such areas as: publicity and marketing, event planning, museum management, primary education, translating, tourism, export/import services and physical therapy. Work is not renumerated, but some of our most successful students have been offered jobs after interning. The internship structure is the following, which begins about a month after program start date:
-Attend a CV coaching session for writing CVs in Spanish -Send Coordinator a current CV and cover letter (Spanish or English) -Meet Coordinator to go over CV and areas of interest to begin placement search -Go to first meeting with Coordinator to site placement -Begin internship! -Receive and give placement site feedback
The internship might be accredited at your home institution for experiential education, and we will provide any necessary materials or additional structure (progress reports, etc) if needed for this case.
