Literature is driven by the written word. The power of images during the twentieth century (particularly in film), has seemingly supplanted the power of the written word. However, the relationship between word and image continues to evolve as we enter into new and varied relationships with our multiple, intertwined and increasingly interdependent media. This course will offer a comparative look at film and literature in order to examine how the two have continued to modify one another. The students acquire a good command of Spanish literature through the reading of passages from books of well-known Spanish authors, and their film versions.
