  BC Semester Program & Internship
 
 


This unique semester program is comprised of 180 contact hours of Spanish language and complimented by a specialization module in Spanish for Business, which prepares students for their upcoming internship. This is the  third essential component of the program, either an internship in a Spanish company or volunteer work in a local organization which lasts 5 weeks and also receives academic credit from Benedictine.

 

The BC Semester Program is an interdisciplinary program which involves the study of the languages, culture and society of Spain as well as the surrounding political entities which affect it. The main objectives of this course are to:

 

-Hone and increase students’ Spanish language skills                     -Enhance students’ awareness and knowledge of Spanish civilization -Increase students’ capacity to integrate in a cross-cultural experience -Offer students the possibility to specialize in pertinent areas of Iberian studies (Arabic Heritage in Spain, etc).                                         -Reinforce language skills, class knowledge, and intercultural competence through participation in an internship in a Spanish company or volunteer work.

 

Inclusions:

 

Housing: home-stays with half-board (breakfast and lunch), in an individual room. All Spanish families are carefully selected and located no more than 20 minutes walking distance from CLIC IH Seville.

 

Programmed and paid activities, apart from regularly offered ones:
- One visit to monuments/exhibitions per week (Cathedral and Giralda, Lebrija Mansion, Casa de Pilatos, Royal Palaces, Jewish quarter, Indian Archives)
- One half-day visit to a company (in addition to the 5-week internship) -Two full-day excursions (Cordoba, Ronda, Cadiz/Jerez, Antequera, Itálica)

 

Tailor-fitted internship or organizational placement: students are placed according to their interests and career goals and provided support throughout the experience by our Internship Coordinator, including accompaniment in interviews, resume coaching in Spanish and weekly language tutorials. Placements last 5 weeks and occur in mid-semester. Students also receive a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the internship and feedback throughout the placement.

 

Credit from Benedictine College for 18 credit hours: Students who successfully complete their coursework may receive 18 credit hours transferable to their home university. Fees payable to BC are not included in program costs.
