FoCUS program students are encouraged to participate in a 6 week internship at the end of their studies. Interning in Spain is an excellent way to practice your language and cultural competence skills in a real-time environment, as well as to gain key inside knowledge on the workings of a Spanish business in your field. Due to scheduling needs, students do not study during this time. This is an option for all levels, since the minimum Spanish level is A2, and a beginner student will have reached A2 after one semester of intensive study in the FoCUS program. Internships take place in Spanish businesses and organizations in Seville, and recently we have placed students in such areas as: publicity and marketing, event planning, museum management, primary education, translating, tourism, export/import services and physical therapy.
Internship placement incurs additional costs for housing and fees, which can be reviewed here:
The internship structure is the following: -Confirm participation by mid-semester with payment -Attend a CV coaching language tutorial for writing CVs in Spanish -Send Coordinator a current CV and cover letter (Spanish and English)
-Meet Coordinator to go over CV and areas of interest for placement -Go to first on-site meeting with Coordinator to determine match -Begin internship! -Write a final paper (2-5 pages on experience for language portfolio) -Receive and give placement site feedback The internship might be accredited at your home institution for experiential education, and we will provide any necessary materials or additional structure (progress reports, etc) if needed for this case. Internships may be able to be extended, and some of our students have been offered jobs at its end.
